Solution: Sharepoint 2010

I wan't the first and won't be the last.

If you upgraded to sharepoint 2010 and did the Visual Upgrade (you now see the new ribbon bar), the default.master page isn't used.

You now must reference the scripts in V4.Master the same way you did in default.master in the past.

    <script src="http://<xxx>/jquery-1.4.4.js"></script>
    <script src="http://<xxx>/InstantListFilter.js"></script>

Edit July 11th: I now use:

 <SharePoint:ScriptLink language="javascript" name="jquery-1.4.4.js" runat="server"/>
 <SharePoint:ScriptLink language="javascript" name="InstantListFilter.js" runat="server"/>

It might be in my head, but it seems to work faster...
