Release Notes

Javascript based solution that adds filter textboxes to every column of a SharePoint list view (SPGridView) with filter-as-you-type functionality. Uses jQuery.

There are three recommended options for installing SharePoint InstantListFilter:

Install option 1: Master page
Download instantlistfilter.js and jQuery from www.jquery.com. Reference both js files in the head of your master page.

Install option2: Content Editor Web Part
This newest option is your friend when you have limited access to your SharePoint environment. You can drop a Content Editor Web Part on your page and copy the contents of instantlistfilter_contenteditorwebpart.txt into the source editor of your Web Part. Obviously the this will only add the functionality to the page the Content Editor Web Part is on.

Install option 3: SharePoint Solution Package (WSP)
Download and install the Vossers.InstantListFilter.DeploymentPackage.wsp solution package. This will deploy 4 features. Only one of these features should be activated. The most common scenario will be to activate InstantListFilterSiteScoped.

Feature InstantListFilterSiteScoped will add an ascx control to the additionalpagehead contentplaceholder in the masterpage for every site in the site collection. This ascx references jQuery and instantlistfilter.js

Feature InstantListFilterSiteScopedNoJQuery will add an ascx control to the additionalpagehead contentplaceholder in the masterpage for every site in the site collection. This ascx references only instantlistfilter.js so you are responsible for loading jQuery before instantlistfilter.js is loaded.

Feature InstantListFilterWebScoped will add an ascx control to the additionalpagehead contentplaceholder in the masterpage of the site it is activated on. This ascx references jQuery and instantlistfilter.js

Feature InstantListFilterWebScopedNoJQuery will add an ascx control to the additionalpagehead contentplaceholder in the masterpage of the site it is activated on.. This ascx references only instantlistfilter.js so you are responsible for loading jQuery before instantlistfilter.js is loaded.

If you are using SharePoint InlineSiteSettings (http://www.codeplex.com/inlinesitesettings) or SharePoint QuickLaunchExtender (http://www.codeplex.com/quicklaunchextender) , you should activate one of the NoJQuery features.

wonderful - simply and effective... solves lot of users' requirements. How to modify so that it works for document libraries as well?

I'd like to not reference Google's ajax api because my site uses SSL and referencing google throws a security warning everytime the page is loaded. I have jQuery downloaded locally so can this be accomplished just using a locally referenced jQuery library?
by thewire on Jun 10, 2009 at 9:10 PM

Useful, Easy and Quick I love! For SSL with install option 2 you just have to change the first line of the text by adding a "s" to "http". Yes google provide its api with SSL.

Great tool! However, it is incompatible with Jquery library 1.3.2.

This simple tool is awesome ! My only wish would be that it would work on lists that are grouped or have tallied columns so that as the results are filtered a "Total" counter for a column would display how many results match the filter criteria. Otherwise... it ROCKS!
